After we completed the process of creating the Holiday collection, we began brainstorming ideas for the following Spring/Summer Collection. Bagnet's CEO, Kelley, kicked off the project by asking for suggestions for styles, and I turned to the web to start looking for inspiration. Using Pinterest, I pulled images that I believed would translate well into styles, and had the trendy/cool-girl vibe that would resonate with our audience.
I grouped these images into different categories that would make up a concept and posted them to our team's vision board. Each grouping came with detailed explanations on how they would fit into the collection. The Creative Director did the same, and the CEO reviewed our suggestions, giving feedback on what she thought would and wouldn't work.
Based on the CEO’s feedback, a list of style concepts to be developed was created. I then began illustrating each concept in Procreate, starting with grayscale line drawings for initial feedback and including a rough color palette for review. I appreciate designs that are detail-heavy, so I meticulously illustrated these concepts, adding intricate linework and details to elevate the overall quality of the design and product. For the citrus design, per Kelley’s suggestion, I incorporated elements from a previously developed style that was nixed before production. I reimagined it with added details and a fresh approach to make it more successful this time around.
Kelley provided very positive feedback on the initial designs and approved the rough palette. This allowed me to proceed with coloring the designs. Based on the color iterations we explored in the Holiday collection, I knew that shades of pink were especially popular with our audience, while shades of green were less favored. I used this insight to create a rough color palette for each design, focusing on soft, harmonious tones that would appeal to our customers.
